Quantum scattering theory for collisional energy transfer
Abstract
Abstract Accurate quantum mechanical approaches to collisional energy transfer are reviewed in this chapter. Models involving polyatomic molecules taking into account at least two vibrational degrees of freedom are considered. The theory of time-independent and time-dependent quantum mechanical inelastic scattering calculations is summarized, followed by a review and analysis of the results of applications to specific systems. The focus is on available models of collisions of highly vibrationally excited molecules with atoms. The applicability of various quantum mechanical models to different collision-induced energy transfer phenomena is discussed. Where available, comparison of the results of the quantum and classical mechanical simulations is presented.
