RSS ranging based indoor localization in ultra low power wireless network

Abstract

Abstract Advances in ultra low power based wireless networks have enabled developments of a variety of applications including indoor localization systems. Considering the commercial 2.4\u202fGHz wireless devices choose lower and lower power consumption strategy, it is challenging to design an ultra low power based real time indoor localization system. In ultra low power channel conditions, the rapid increase of received signal strength (RSS) measurement variabilities for the minimum RSS value ranges, the spatiotemporally different RSS attenuations, and the common non-line of sight (NLOS) problems make the indoor localization system significantly inefficient. Considering the practical dynamics of ultra low power indoor wireless channel environments, we propose the indoor localization algorithm which can accommodate the environmental dynamics automatically in real time.
