PLIF experimental validation of a FLUENT CFD model of a coolant mixing in reactor vessel down-comer
Abstract
Abstract In view of interest in nuclear reactor boron mixing analysis, an experiment was conducted to investigate boron mixing phenomena in the down-comer using Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence technique with Rhodamine-B solution (0.01\u202fmg/l) injected as tracer. PLIF is a non-intrusive 2D flow visualization method. Concentration of the tracer measured at specific locations was compared with the results of FLUENT simulation of the set-up for 4\u202fs. Most of the experimental and simulation results agreed within ±20% range to each other. The concentration measurements can be useful in validating species transport model of CFD codes.
