Nano-sphere Co3O4@TiO2 composites with abundant mesoporous structure for advanced lithium storage

Abstract

Abstract Among various kinds of anode materials for the Lithium-ion batteries, cobalt oxide has become a hot research topic due to its high specific capacity. However, the poor cycle performance is the main obstacle for the commercial application. Many strategies have been employed for improving the cycle performance of cobalt oxide anode. In our work, we have successfully prepared nano-sphere Co3O4@TiO2 composites. This method could enhance the conductivity and reduce the stresses caused by volume variations of Co3O4, because of the presence of TiO2 layer in the composite. As a result, the lithium storage performance of Co3O4@TiO2 composites is greatly modified. The Co3O4@TiO2 composites show high specific capacity and superior cycle stability.
