Polyaniline coated ZnFe2O4 microsphere and its electrorheological and magnetorheological response

Abstract

Abstract Magnetic zinc ferrite particles synthesized by the solvothermal method were coated with conductive polyaniline, and their electro- and magneto-responsive smart fluid behaviors were investigated. Both size and morphology of the produced particles were identified by SEM and TEM. Their chemical composition and crystal faces were analyzed by FT-IR and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The synthesized particles were suspended in silicone oil at 5\xa0vol%, and their electro- and magneto-responses were scrutinized using a rotation rheometer. In an electric field, the flow curve was fitted smoothly to the CCJ model, and the yield stress showed an exponential value of 1.5. In contrast, an exponential value of 1.0 was observed for the yield stress in a magnetic field.
