Scientometric review of international research trends on thermal energy storage cement based composites via integration of phase change materials from 1993 to 2020

Abstract

Abstract The efforts towards energy conservation and efficiency dates to 70\xa0s, associated with the uprisal of energy crises, and shifted the technologies from fossil fuels to renewable, sustainable and green energy strategies. As a part of the solution, thermal energy storage cement based composites were introduced by the intrusion of phase change materials. The remarkable structural and thermal performance of these materials made them the center of prime importance at both the national and global levels. Tremendous research was conducted on the proposed field of study in the past two decades. Therefore, there is a need to monitor the research trend by recruiting bibliometric data from the available database. This article gathered bibliometric data of 304 publications and performed a scientometric review for the first time in the field of thermal energy storage cement based composites. Scientific visuals were developed for research outlets, keywords co-occurrence, co-authorship, and bibliometric couplings. Analyses results showed that a gradual increase was followed by a sharp increase in the number of publications from 1993 to 2020. Journal of Construction and Building Materials published the highest number of articles (1\xa02\xa04) to-date. This article also reported that only 24.6% of the countries are actively contributing to the current research domain, demanding and providing opportunities for future researchers. Finally, taking advantage of author keywords prime areas of grey and green research in the field of thermal energy storage cement based composites were also highlighted and briefly discussed.
