A sustainable method for Porous refractory ceramic Manufacturing from kaolin by adding of burned and raw wheat straw

Abstract

Abstract The present study demonstrates a cost effective way to manufacturing porous refractory ceramic by added of burned and raw Wheat Straw (W.S.) to refractory mixture (kaolin and alumina), samples were sintered at 1300°C. Size and distribution of pores were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).The obtained porous refractory ceramics exhibited apparent porosity of 43%, loss in mass of 38.3%, linear shrinkage of 9.9% and diametrical strength of 3.6MPa with 30% ratio of (W.S.). Suggested application area includes in lining of furnaces and most high temperature manufacturing processes.
