Inspecting geothermal prospects in an integrated approach within the West Azarbaijan Province of Iran
Abstract
Abstract West Azarbaijan Province is the richest geothermal region in Iran and its potentials are evaluated through geological, geochemical and geophysical data. Eleven areas hosting 30 warm springs are analyzed here. Scenes colored by Fe-oxides, alteration minerals and travertine confirm existence of the geothermal reservoirs. Analyzing the geochemistry of samples revealed all hot fluids fall into bicarbonate group (high HCO 3 content) and suffered severe mixing (high Mg content). Silica and cation geothermometers proposed a rage of 50–150\u2009°C as the reservoir temperature. Major and minor faults are also deciphered using geophysical data in 6 regions.
