Abstract

Abstract In this paper, a compact elliptical shaped patch antenna is designed for terahertz (THz) applications. The elliptical shaped patch has the four complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) loaded on patch and multi complementary split ring resonators (MCSRRs) are embedded on the ground plane. The proposed elliptical shaped CSRR patch (ESCP) antenna is operated with five resonating frequencies below −\xa010\xa0dB reflection coefficients. The ESCP antennas is resonating at 1.262, 1.901, 2.037, 2.407, 2.747\xa0THz with reflection coefficient of −\xa027.1, −\xa032.8, 46.6, −\xa015.9, −\xa026.8\xa0dB and the gain is observed as 4.97, 5.25, 7.02, 7.9 and 11.6\xa0dBi respectively at corresponding frequencies. The overall volume of the proposed antenna is 470\xa0×\xa0450\xa0×\xa010\xa0µm3. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna 191, 330, 350, 380, and 652\xa0GHz. The radiation patterns are also presented for the proposed terahertz ESCP antenna at terahertz applications.
