Nanocosmeceuticals for the management of ageing: Rigors and Vigors

Abstract

Abstract Ageing is a biological phenomenon characterised by the deterioration of cells at the cellular and molecular levels. This progression of degeneration of the cells has inclined the research interest in the domains of skincare and subsequent biomedical applications. Nanocosmeceuticals have been innovative and fascinating measures in the field of nanotechnology for enhancing in the area of cosmeceuticals. Cosmeceuticals are regarded as cosmetics merged with pharmaceutically active agents, which help to reduce the effect of ageing. Nanocosmeceutical-based products are efficiently used in various age-related problems like wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and hair loss. The substitution of conventional therapies and treatments by the novel drug carriers like solid lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, niosomes, and carbon-based carriers have proven promising. The merits offered are high entrapment efficiency, sustained drug release, enhanced skin penetration, high stability, and specified site targeting. This review emphasis on the targets of ageing, the role of novel drug delivery systems in the delivery of antiageing drugs and explores the role of novel carriers in cosmeceutical products, along with the commercial status.
