Simple Lie groups stabilizing G-invariant norms

Abstract

Abstract We prove that when a compact simple Lie group G acts absolutely irreducibly on a vector space V, almost always the connected stabilizer of a G-invariant norm coincides with either G or the whole S O ( V ) , and the short list of exceptional cases is determined.
