In situ investigation of minor-phase globule collision and the structure in a droplet-shaped immiscible alloy

 
 
 
 

Abstract


Abstract Minor-phase globule collision (MPGC) is of crucial significance in the final microstructure of droplet-shaped immiscible alloy. However, the specific relationship is difficult to be determined due to the opaque in metallic systems. Here, by using transparent SCN-60wt.%H2O mixture, MPGC was studied under different temperature gradients (TGs), and the relation of MPGC and TG was determined. It was found that MPGC was sharply dependent of TG and affected the final morphology. For a higher TG case, the induced MPGC was stronger and finally resulted in a one-aggregation structure, whereas the MPGC was very weak in a lower TG case, and it eventually led to a multi-aggregation structure. The findings open an opportunity for the design of potential microstructures.
