Ageing of pipe induced chlorine concentration decay: A one dimensional mass transfer modeling

Abstract

Abstract We report here the one-dimensional mass transfer equation for modeling of chlorine decay process in water distribution system. Furthermore, Arrhenius model was augmented with unsteady state mass transport and ageing factor due to wall reaction. A detailed analysis of flow velocities, temperatures and ageing factors are compared. The results show that chlorine decay strongly depends on slow velocities, temperature and high wall reaction coefficient of aged pipe. The chlorine decays gradually at lower temperature up to 20\u202f°C but a sharp increase was found with the increase in temperature.
