Abstract

EnglishFibromyalgia (FM) syndrome is characterised by a chronic generalised state of pain, with increased response to stimuli perceived as nociceptive, along with somatic symptoms that patients locate mainly in the locomotor system, without verifiable organic alterations. It is the most common cause of chronic musculoskeletal pain. Its prevalence is about 2%-3% in the general population and its aetiology is unknown. Diagnosis is completely clinical, excluding other apparent medical reasons that would justify the symptoms. The disease is difficult to treat, so no drug treatment has to date shown sufficient efficacy to relieve the symptoms of the condition.
