Response of microchannel plates to positrons from muon-decays
Abstract
Abstract The positrons from muon-decay form an intrinsic background to detect muons at pioneering low-energy muon (LE- μ ) facilities. A microchannel plate (MCP) is used to detect LE- μ \xa0to commission and tune the LE- μ \xa0beamline. We measured LE- μ \xa0and decay positrons using a MCP. Their responses were compared for the first time. The pulse height distribution for the decay positrons was found to be consistent with the results of the multi-channel excitation model. The event selection with pulse height rejected more than 75% of the decay positrons while maintaining the efficiency of LE- μ \xa0at 90%.
