Review of health research at the Canadian Light Source

Abstract

Abstract Health research is a key focus area at the Canadian Light Source (CLS). From 2017 through 2019, researchers from across Canada have made impressive use of the capabilities of CLS beamlines to collect data and advance many challenging projects. These researchers published more than 200 health-related papers and deposited more than 400 structure coordinates in the Protein Data Bank during this period. The summaries presented in this review highlight a representative selection of this research, covering a range of health issues including; cystic fibrosis, hearing loss, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, malaria, cancer, and the role of the microbiome. Advances in the development of new antibiotics and other novel pharmaceuticals are also discussed.
