Distribution behaviour of boron between ZrTiHfCuNi high entropy alloy and silicon
Abstract
Abstract The high entropy alloys (HEAs) have great potential to be the additives for the B removal from silicon. Therefore, the behaviours of the B in Si interacted with CuNiHfTiZr and CuNiTiZr HEAs were investigated. The Zr, Ti, and Hf have strong affinities for B, thus enhancing the formation of borides. The interaction mechanisms of the B and different additives (CuNiHfTiZr and CuNiTiZr) are different. As for the CuNiHfTiZr additive, the B precipitates to form the B particles that are absorbed on the surface of the alloy, while the B can also be trapped in the alloy phase and thus formed a homogeneous phase. Except for the two mechanisms mentioned, as for the CuNiTiZr additive, B can also react with Ti, Zr and Ni to form borides: (Ti3-xZrx)B4 or Ni3B.
