One-pot hydrothermal synthesis of a novel Pt@CeO2 nanocomposite for water-gas shift reaction

Abstract

Abstract A Pt-doped ceria nanocomposite with controlled morphology was prepared by one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method. The crystalline structure, texture and metal dispersion of the novel Pt@CeO2 sample were studied by powder XRD, TEM, XPS, H2-TPR, N2-adsorption and CO chemisorption. The catalyst preparation procedure under hydrothermal conditions had significant impact on the Pt nanoparticles growth rate. Highly dispersed Pt species can be sufficiently anchored on the surface of nanopolyhedral CeO2. The nanopolyhedral Pt@CeO2 catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity for the water-gas shift reaction, suggesting an intimate interaction between Pt nanoparticles and nanopolyhedral CeO2 that promotes the generation of additional active sites.
