Abstract

Summary Fulminant hepatic failure is an unusual complication of hepatitis A virus infection which, without liver transplantation, is associated with a poor prognosis. We report a case of fulminant hepatitis A complicated by severe cardiac dysfunction, related to Takotsubo syndrome, that was considered a contraindication for transplantation and was successfully managed with standard volume plasma exchange.
