Study of structural and electrochemical properties of Ilmenite (FeTiO3) doped TiO2

Abstract

Abstract Ilmenite (FeTiO3) is an attractive semiconducting compound with a wide bandgap that enables its application in spintronics, photocatalysts, optoelectronics, chemical catalysts and high temperature integrated circuits etc. In the present study we have successfully synthesized a FeTiO3 doped TiO2 composite of molar concentration 25:75 by facile sol gel process and investigated the structural and electrochemical properties. XRD confirms that the 75TiO2- 25FeTiO3 composite is a mixture of the anatase TiO2 phase and the rhombohedral FeTiO3 without the presence of any impurity phases. The electrochemical behavior of the FeTiO3 doped TiO2 electrode was characterized by Cyclic Voltammetry and Mott Schottky. The donor density and flat band potential for the sample has been calculated from the Mott-Schottky curve. The study shows that 75TiO2-25FeTiO3 possesses better electrochemical properties which can be employed in optoelectronics and photocatalytic devices.
