Abstract

Using mitochondria-targeted TALENS and ionizing radiation, consequences of mtDNA double-strand (ds) breaks were investigated by Tigano et\xa0al. (2021) who uncovered mtRNA as a retrograde second messenger of this form of mtDNA stress that activates the RIG-I/MAVS innate immune signaling pathway.
