Improvements to the long counter for neutron energies up to GeV
Abstract
Abstract An improved design of neutron long counter has been developed. Twelve chromium rods were implemented into the moderator, which extended the response to the GeV region. The dimensions and geometry were varied and the consequences on the response function were studied. Different parameters were optimized based on Monte Carlo code to flatten the neutron response energy distribution, over a wide energy range, from a few eV’s to 1 GeV without significant changes in the response observed, and a deviation less than 15.5% in the range of 1 eV to 800 MeV can be obtained.
