Abstract

Abstract Corrosion aversion capability of Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coatings with different loading levels of Graphene Oxide (GO) nanoparticles on mild steel testing panels has been studied in different aggressive media. The chemical structure of the developed coatings was studied by FTIR, UV–Visible,\u200b and X-ray diffraction studies. The viability of the coating to offer corrosion resistance and the barrier performance were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The surface morphology of the material was characterized by FESEM and AFM techniques. The electrochemical and non-electrochemical corrosion study of the coated panels were compared with uncoated mild steel panel and showed that PVA polymer matrix filled with 3.0 weight % of GO (PVA@3WGO) gives better protection in 0.5M HCl and 3.5% NaCl.
