Highlight • It is the first systematic review with meta-analysis assessing circulating tumor DNA as a prognostic biomarker for melanoma.• Complicated and comprehensive time-to-event data had been used to perform analyses.• The results showed useful tool of ctDNA detection at baseline and during follow-up, and the promising and more generally, the effectiveness of liquid biopsy.• Stress the relationship between ctDNA and gene mutation.
