A new book on Hasmonean, Herodian, and Roman Jerusalem

Abstract

More than 100 years have elapsed since the magnum opus of Vincent and Abel – Jérusalem nouvelle (1914–26) – first appeared in print, and the history and archaeology of ancient Jerusalem continue to inspire scholars, presenting new finds and observations. Numerous articles are published each year, and three books have appeared recently dealing with the Hellenistic and Roman city: Avni and Stiebel 2017, Weksler-Bdolah 2020, and Gafni et al. 2020 (the last in Hebrew; in spite of its title, the subject of the second volume is archaeology).
