Modeling problems of the post-critical states of deformation of isogrid plates in the light of the preliminary experimental investigations

Abstract

Currently, a significant increase in the interest of the triangle grid stiffened plates and panels can be observed. Isogrid, which is equilateral triangle grid concept, was developed in 1964 by NASA as extremely efficient light-weight structures used in space program. Recently, development of machine tools, made it possible to reduce the costs of manufacturing and allowed for wider application of such structures. Paper presents preliminary experimental and numerical investigations of square isosceles triangle grid stiffened plate under pure shear loading condition. Different ways of FEM modeling of plate were considered and analyzed for simple load cases. Critical and post-critical states of deformation were compared to results of experiment conducted with use of 3D DIC system.Currently, a significant increase in the interest of the triangle grid stiffened plates and panels can be observed.
