The impact of a vehicle braking system state on safe driving. Part two

Abstract

Undoubtedly over the recent years an increase in the intensity of the transport of goods and the mobility of road traffic participants is positive. Vehicles have become an indispensable tool not only in professional but also in everyday life. The number of vehicles in Poland has been growing regularly. In 2017 the number of engine vehicles in the Republic of Poland reached almost 30 million. Unfortunately the situation also triggers negative effects. Road traffic poses a risk of road accidents. When safety is threatened, it is essential to be able to stop the vehicle before the barrier or to decrease the speed considerably since the effects of a collision depend on the collision speed considerably. With that in mind, the braking system together with the auxiliary vehicle braking forces correctors are one of the most important construction systems of active vehicle safety. Therefore the article deals with the vehicle braking process. The results of the simulation studies are presented for selected braking system malfunctions and their effect on a possibility of stopping the car and collision consequences. The simulation calculations were made with the V-SIM4 program in which the occurrence of the system errors while car braking were modelled. For the analysis, the ABS system malfunction and the disappearance of braking forces on one of the selected car wheels were assumed. As a result the time histories of the changes in the speed and delays while braking are presented and the vehicle collision energy for the situations considered are determined. Besides the results of the studies have also facilitated defining the directions of development of the program used to enhance modelling of the processes which occur while braking in today’s passenger cars.Undoubtedly over the recent years an increase in the intensity of the transport of goods and the mobility of road traffic participants is positive.
