The effectiveness of guided inquiry learning e-module containing research result in bioethanol production from water Hyacinth to improve student environmental literacy
Abstract
Life in the 21st century requires students to be prepared to face the challenges, including the rapid advancement of technology. One of the abilities of the 21st century that students must have today is environmental literacy. This study aims to determine the initial ability of students’ environmental literacy which includes three indicators namely environmental awareness, environmental sensitivity and environmental knowledge. The purpose of this study is to testing the effectiveness of e-module based on guided inquiry learning in improving the environmental literacy of S1 Biology Education students in Biotechnology course. The method used is a pre-experimental design using pretest and posttest science literacy in one test class. This research was conducted for one month in March 2020 at the University of Tribhuwana Tunggadewi Malang. Data from the pre-test and post-test results about the ability of environmental literacy were also tested quantitatively using N-Gain analysis to obtain the module’s effectiveness on students’ environmental literacy skills. The results of the analysis showed that the average value of N-gain for students’ environmental literacy abilities was 0.71. This value is interpreted using the effectiveness criteria of N-Gain so that the results obtained that the module tested has high effectiveness criteria for increasing the ability of students’ environmental literacy.
