Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore students’ analyzing ability in the engineering design process through guided inquiry learning for STEM education. The research method was carried out with a mix of methods of embedded experimental design. The subjects in this study consisted of 34 students of Senior High School in Malang Regency who received a guided inquiry for STEM education in Bernoulli principal topic. Instrument about the ability of analysis in the engineering design process (r = 0.55) is given at the beginning and end of learning to improve students’ analytical skills in the engineering design process. Normalized Gain Score ( = 0.52) calculation shows an increase in the students’ engineering design process in the medium category. The improvement in the engineering design process is in line with the improvement in students’ analyzing ability. From 34 research subjects, 32 students experienced an increase in analytical skills, and 2 of them had not improved but remained in good condition. Guided inquiry for STEM education has led students to analyze problems in life based on physics principles. Through guided inquiry learning for STEM education, students can solve life problems based on related physics principles.
