Rediscovery of Syzygium cyanophyllum (Myrtaceae): a threatened rheophytic shrub endemic to Assam, north-east India

Abstract

ABSTRACT Syzygium cyanophyllum is rediscovered after a gap of 103 years from Assam, north-east India. Here we complement the morphologic knowledge of the species by providing detailed taxonomic description with the first photographs of living plants. Its taxonomic relationships with other species of genus Syzygium are also examined and discussed. Recent surveys confirm that the habitat and regional populations of the plant are under threat. Hence, following IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria it is categorised as Endangered.
