Comment on: Training medical students how to communicate with E-patients
Abstract
white, and only two (2.6%) were black. Randomized controlled trials show that Asian and BME medical students receive lower scores in their OSCE examinations across the UK (Yeates et al. 2017). As we know, part of the marking criteria of the OSCE examination is based on displayed levels of empathy and is recorded as “Global Marks.” Although this study was not done to compare the empathy levels displayed by students of different ethnic backgrounds, a greater representation of BME and Asian students could provide supporting evidence to show how empathy levels fair between the groups and whether this is the reason marks are lower.
