Abstract

This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics begins with the Licensed Vaccines section featuring a cost-effectiveness analysis of adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine in older US adults (Curran, p 765), a review of immune responses to zoster vaccines (Levin, p 772), a comparison of intramuscular and subcutaneous administration of a combined measles, mumps, rubella and varicella vaccine in children (Haas, p 778), a Phase 3 trial of a second-dose MMR vaccine with or without DTaP-IPV and varicella vaccines (Povey, p 786), a Phase 4 study of a DTP-IPV vaccines co-administered with a rotavirus vaccine (Gillard, p 800), Phase 3 trials investigating the immunogenicity and safety of a prime-boost regimen of the hexavalent vaccine (Klein, p 809) and of live attenuated varicella vaccine (Huang, p 822), a randomized clinical study of a lyophilized purified human diploid cell rabies vaccine produced from microcarrier cultures (Zhou, p 828), and a report on the impact of the live attenuated SA 14-14-2 Japanese encephalitis vaccine in India (Muniaraj, p 834). The Pneumococcal section presents examination of disparities in PCV-13 uptake among older US adults (McLaughlin, p 841), a cost-effectiveness analysis of PCV-13 and PPV-23 in Portugal (Gouveia, p 850), a commentary on vaccination in autoimmune and chronic respiratory patients (Kuronuma, p 859), a report on the cost-effectiveness of an intervention to promote vaccine uptake in high-risk adults (Wateska, p 863), and a Letter to the Editor on reporting pediatric cases of infection by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 (Ozkaya-Parlakay, p 873) with a Response Letter (Wantuch, p 874). Three articles on Immunotherapy include a review of the emerging therapies of autoimmune kidney diseases (Foster, p 876), a product review of the anti-PD-L1 MAb avelumab (Collins, p 891), and a comparison study of alum and MF59 adjuvants for an opioid therapeutic vaccine (Robinson, p 909). We present three articles on Public Health: a systematic review of knowledge and attitudes to compulsory vaccination (Gualano, p 918), results from the MARVEL study of varicella healthcare resource utilization in middle-income countries (Wolfson, p 932), and a review on implementation of maternal immunization programs in Low & Middle-Income Countries (Krishnaswamy, p 942). Four research articles on Influenza report on the validity of parental and provider reporting on vaccination of children with special medical conditions (Tuckerman, p 951), factors affecting vaccination in adults with chronic diseases (Jang, p 959), a campaign to improve vaccination among residents in an Italian hospital (Barbara, p 967), and the immunogenicity and safety of an intramuscular split-virion quadrivalent inactivated vaccine in India (Agarkhedkar, p 973). The Meningococcal section introduces a calculator of costs of outbreaks and mass vaccination responses at US college campuses (La, p 978) and a longitudinal study of bacterial carriage in Australian first-year university students (McMillan, p 987). Finally, we present two Clinical articles on the effect of skin cleansing with alcohol on post-vaccination adverse reactions and infections (Wong, p 995) and compliance with vaccination schedules (Hadjipanayis, p 1003), and a survey of HPV vaccine acceptability among men who have sex with men in China (Tian, p 1005) Our monthly News, Policy and Profiles (NP&P) track offers a selection of the latest news in the field of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. In this section we also regularly publish opinion pieces on timely, interesting and controversial topics related to vaccines and immunotherapeutics, profiles of companies and organizations, as well as portraits of distinguished scientists in our field. Please contact Acquisitions Editor Adam Weiss ([email protected]) with your ideas for commentaries, opinion pieces, profiles and portraits.
