Economic crisis, labour market reform and socio-economic outcomes in Eastern Europe

Abstract

ABSTRACT The 2008 crisis was not only regionally uneven in its economic effects but also led to uneven labour market reforms in eastern European countries. As a result, the socio-economic impact of the global financial crisis and political reactions to it varied considerably among post-communist states. Nevertheless, there have been some common trends in their macroeconomic performances, labour market reforms and welfare outcomes. These trends have important implications for future economic policy actions at this critical juncture in the coronavirus pandemic.
