Abstract

The shiitakemushroomwas treated by hydrothermalmethod to obtain a novel biosorbent. Scanning ElectronMicroscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy andBrunauer– Emmett–Teller (BET)method have been used to characterize the physico-chemical properties of the novel biosorbent. Factors affecting the adsorption properties of Congo red onto biosorbent such as pH, dose, time and temperature were investigated respectively. The experimental datamore suitable for the langmuirmodel than the Freundlichmodel. Themaximumadsorption capacity of the biosorbent obtained by the Langmuirmodel at 293 Kwas 217.86mg g. The kinetic study illustrated that the adsorption fit the pseudo-first-ordermodel. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption reactionwas a spontaneous endothermic reaction.
