Intracerebral hemorrhage after kratom ingestion.

Abstract

ABSTRACT\nMitragyna speciosa, a tropical tree also known as kratom, is an emerging substance of abuse with dose-dependent stimulant and opioid-like effects. Kratom may be purchased legally in the United States and is marketed online as a safe alternative to opioids and a cheap alternative to opioid replacement therapy. However, adverse reactions to ingestion are largely unknown and may pose a significant public health risk. This article describes a man with an intracerebral hemorrhage possibly secondary to kratom ingestion.
