Pregnancy Choices and the Role of Ultrasound Viewing

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Limited research exists on the impact of ultrasound use in abortion or pregnancy clinic settings, to assist women in decision-making regarding their pregnancy. A retrospective chart review study was conducted at a pregnancy resource center to examine the impact of ultrasound viewing on a woman s decision to continue her pregnancy. During a 1-year period, intention to terminate pregnancy was reduced from 44 cases to 14 cases after viewing the ultrasound. Nursing implications include understanding the value of ultrasound viewing among pregnant women considering abortion.
