Deoxycholic Acid for Submental Fullness and More: Real-World Experience With 202 Patients

Abstract

Accumulation of fat under the chin often creates an undesirable impression of age or heaviness and has a considerable effect on an individual’s sense of attractiveness and well-being. Deoxycholic acid (DCA) (KYBELLA/BELKYRA; Allergan,Madison, NJ) is the first minimally invasive injectable treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada for nonsurgical reduction of submental fullness (SMF). The efficacy and safety of DCA has been extensively evaluated in 4 Phase III trials across Europe and North America. This retrospective review highlights clinical experience with DCA since its regulatory approval and compares “real-world” experience and results with those obtained from clinical trials.
