Determination of Starting & Running Torque and their effects on a Household Refrigerator Hermetic Reciprocating Compressor

Abstract

Determination of starting and running torque numerically, including all mechanical components and taking the gas pressure increases with the reciprocation of piston to the TDC with the rotation of the crankshaft considering all possible losses and contact modeling is the major contribution of this research. This article can be a valuable resource for the determination of the maximum starting and running torque of the motor including all losses while designing new compressor models as the motor should have the capability to achieve the rated starting torque within the shortest possible time because experimental systems can measure the torque of the motor with mechanical kits and considering frictional losses by sensors inside a hermetically sealed compressor which are very complex and expensive. The starting torque has been calculated by solving mathematical models and the running torque has been calculated by using motion simulation with proper frictional contact modeling for a particular compressor model designed to work with R600a refrigerant. Also, their effects on the compressor have been highlighted in this research.
