Enhanced Radar Phase Measurements by means of Highly Dispersive Waveguides

Abstract

In this contribution, we present a newly developed radar phase measurement principle that utilizes the natural dispersion inside of waveguides in close proximity to their cutoff frequency. Therefore, a model to describe the effect of the dispersion on the radar phase is set up which provides a basis for a robust phase evaluation process. The model and process are verified by three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulations as well as by measurements that are carried out of a prototype setup with a millimeter wave frequency modulated continuous wave radar system.
