Truncating Matrx-free Time-Domain Method with PML for Solving 3-D Open Region Problems

 
 

Abstract


In this paper we develop a formulation to truncate the matrix-free time-domain (MFTD) method in unstructured meshes with PML. Utilizing the strength of the MFTD method in handling arbitrarily shaped elements, we employ an orthogonal-grid based discretization in the PML, while keeping the unstructured meshes in the solution domain. The proposed formulation in PML is conformal to the original MFTD method in unstructured meshes, and hence can be readily employed to truncate MFTD for simulating open-region problems. Numerical results have validated the proposed method.
