A Fast Algorithm for Modeling Rough Surfaces in the Remote Sensing Tasks
Abstract
At designing remote sensing radio-systems there often appears the task of modeling signals backscattered or radiated by rough surfaces. For solving that task the paper presents a multilayer micro-facet model of a rough surface with a user-defined orientation of layers and a user-defined spatial correlation function for each layer. A fast algorithm for modeling rough surfaces is suggested. The advantage of the suggested algorithm is that it does not require storing the points of the whole surface in computer memory (neither internal nor external). Besides it takes into account the spatial correlation between the surface heights. The paper also presents some modeling results for various types of real surfaces.
