A Brief Review of Transient Electromagnetic Immunity Testing

Abstract

The paper intends to be a brief review of the electromagnetic immunity of the equipment connected to the low voltage networks, against transient impulses, in compliance with the tests included in the specific standards IEC/EN 61000-4 and the related ones. Tests were performed in a lighting installation of an office building consisting in LED linear luminaires, constant current driven with adjustable output current. After the introductory part, the three following sections treat the immunity to electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transients and surge. Following the tests, it was found necessary to retrofit an additional EMI filter on the mains input of the luminaires.
