Abstract

Balance ability is a significant function of human body. For the elderly, the evaluation of balance ability is important, therefore, predicting the possibility of fall for the elderly is a momentous topic. This paper aims to evaluate the balance ability for the elderly quantitatively. In this paper, take typical secondary system as a research model, giving Morlet continuous wavelet transform for the center gravity fluctuation data acquired under free walking of the elderly, then calculate the adjust time from falling to resume and regard the result as the assess indicators for evaluating the balance ability. Compared with the Pole Analytic Method, the average absolute error, root mean square error and average absolute error value of Morlet Wavelet Analysis are smaller, which indicates that the wavelet method processes a higher precision and it is more suitable for the study. By analyzing the adjust time for 76 samples and verifying the feasibility of the method, then concluded that the range of adjust time is 5.2952 ~ 59.6272s approximately. In the end, the study gives proposals accordingly, such as help the elderly with exercises properly and create a safety environment for them. The complete suggestions are listed in the paper.
