A Novel Instability and LCC/VSC HVDC Power Recovery by Voltage Clamping Effect of Electro-Mechanical Transient Oscillation Center

Abstract

In this paper, a novel risk of power system instability in adjacent area of rectifier station has been put forward and studied. The mechanism of proposed risk is explained by the vicious spiral from the intricate interactions among voltage clamping effect of electro-mechanical transient oscillation center, the adverse pre-fault operational scenario of HVDC and connected bulk system, and the poor power recovery of HVDC projects. The further research work in this paper indicates that the proposed instability risk can be alleviated and avoided via the utilization of VSC technique. The technological conclusions of proposed risk are also numerically verified by the example from engineering practice in graphical detail.
