Abstract

Electric explosion of wires (EEW) is a complex physical process involved multiple phase transitions. The EEW production of ultrafine powders is influenced by numerous elements. Previous researches indicated that the plasma process would have critical impact on the produced nanoparticles. This paper investigated the nanoparticles morphology of Cu and W explosion which represent two typical non-refractory and refractory metals. Electrical characteristics and self-emission images were used to clear the discharge process. The radius of the nanoparticles produced by the silk explosion technology is between a few nanometers and a hundred microns. Experiments indicated that the evolution of discharge channels were obviously different as well as the exploded products. The distribution of nanopowders, geometric mean, and the geometric standard deviation were calculated, and the influence of the plasma process was analyzed based on above parameters.
