Asymmetric Single DC-Link Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Converter with Model Predictive Control
Abstract
This work proposes a novel asymmetric single DC-link multilevel cascaded H-bridge converter with a model predictive control (MPC). The MPC control becomes necessary due to several short-circuit states present in the topology when using some switching strategy based on pulse width modulation (PWM). The proposed converter can reach higher voltages using fewer components, decreasing the converter cost and size. The developed model predictive control is capable to avoid the prohibitive states maintaining the converter controllability.
