Abstract

The sorbents for hemosorption must be hemocompatibility. The introduction of gamma-alumina-based sorbents and their variants modified with various organic compounds can be used for hemosorption. The aim of our study was to identify the toxicity of aluminum-silicon sorbents modified with carbon nanomaterial for human platelets. The synthesized aluminum-silicon sorbents were modified with single-walled carbon nanotubes or carbon nanofibers in the aqueous phase. The functional status of platelets was evaluated in the MTT test and by degranulation in the presence of sorbents. The study revealed that modification of aluminumsilicon sorbent particles with single-walled carbon nanotubes reduces the metabolic activity of platelets, and modification with carbon nanofiber does not significantly affect the activity of NADP-H-dependent oxidoreductases after 72-hour in vitro exposure. All types of aluminum-silicon sorbents initiate platelets degranulation in vitro. Prolonged exposure of platelets with aluminum-silicon sorbents modified with carbon nanomaterials mostly reduces the metabolic potential and activates platelets degranulation.
