Sizing Optimization of Whale Optimization Algorithm for Hybrid Stand-Alone Photovoltaic System

 
 
 
 

Abstract


This paper presents Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) sizing optimization for Hybrid Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (HSAPV) System. WOA has been applied to the sizing progression to maximize HSPAV technical performance. WOA is used to determine the optimum characteristic needed for the battery bank, inverters, charge controllers, diesel generators, PV modules as expected in the Annual Life Cycle Cost (ALCC), performance ratio (PR) and computation time. WOA sizing optimization performance and computational time are compared with Evolutionary Programming (EP), and Iterative Sizzing Algorithm (ISA) is used as benchmarking. The simulation results show that compared to EP, WOA produced the minimum of ALCC and maximum PR value. Furthermore, WOA executes much faster in term of computation time compared to the ISA.
