On Channel Estimation and Equalization for the Spread Spectrum OFDM-based Modulation
Abstract
This paper focuses on channel estimation and equalization for systems with Interleaved Spread Spectrum OFDM (ISS-OFDM) modulation. ISS-OFDM is a relatively new spread spectrum technique which inherits many properties of conventional OFDM. The task of channel estimation and equalization is addressed in context of ISS-OFDM for the first time. The introduction of an efficient ISS-OFDM channel estimator will make ISS-OFDM a spread spectrum technique which is robust to fading. The influence of multipath propagation is studied analytically in this paper and a novel ISS-OFDM channel estimation and equalization method is described. The proposed method outperforms the classical approach based on training symbols and greatly mitigates the system’s Bit Error Rate degradation caused by fading.
