A Soft-switched Active Clamped Half-bridge Current Source Inverter for Wireless Inductive Power Transfer

Abstract

In this paper, an intensive investigation on an active clamped half-bridge current-source inverter (AC-HBCSI) feeding a series-series (SS) compensated inductive wireless charging system is presented. The charging system adopts the simple primary-side fixed-frequency control technique, which reduces implementation complexity. Moreover, in order to reduce the switching losses of the inverter, a new design methodology to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS) is proposed. The proposed design approach enables not only minimizing the switching losses but also avoiding bifurcation phenomenon, in turn enhances the efficiency of the charging system. Mathematical analysis and design aspects to achieve ZVS are explained in detail. The proposed design method is experimentally validated on a 1-kW laboratory prototype.
